Obituary

Dr. John Vianney McGinnis, 72, of 1907 Kildare Woods Drive, Greensboro, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point.
 
A native of Syracuse, New York, he was the husband of Reoma Edmonds McGinnis and the son of the late Joseph L. McGinnis and the late Agnes Castonguay McGinnis. 
He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University and a master’s degree and doctorate in communication and journalism from Syracuse University. He achieved the rank of captain in the Army and served as an information officer with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. He was a reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper in Rochester, N.Y. He taught communications and journalism at St. John Fisher College and was an adjunct professor at Syracuse University and Appalachian University.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro.  
 
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sisters, Eileen Perrin of Exton, Pa., and Anna May Barclay of Albany, N.Y.; one brother, James McGinnis of Olean, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
 
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 10 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1620 Hanford Road, Graham, by the Rev. Paul Lininger.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. at the residence.
