Mr. John Leslie Barnes, 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Facility.
A native of Wilson, NC, and a longtime resident of Burlington, NC, Mr. Barnes was the son of the late Leslie Edwin Barnes and Bessie Bennett Barnes. He was the husband of the late Ruth Felton Barnes to whom he was married for 59 years. He graduated from NC State in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was retired from Western-Electric. Mr. Barnes was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church, a Charter Member of the Alamance Wildlife Club and a member of the Kiwanis Club and a Veteran of the US Army.
Surviving are his daughter, JoAnna Barnes Fonville (Fred) of Vilas, NC; his son, John Leslie Barnes, Jr. (Kathy) of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Eric Stratford Fonville (Robin), Catherine Fonville Bell (Kevin), Margaret Barnes Davis (Ryan), Allison Barnes Taylor (Brinson) and Anna Kathryn Barnes; ten great grandchildren, Fisher, David, Nolan, Lillie, Caraline, Eric, Vivian, Sydney, Chloe, and Harper; and his brother-in-law, Robert F. Simpson of Greensboro. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by a sister, Betsy Barnes Simpson and a great grandson, Hudson Jude Bell.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 19, at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon, NC, with Rev. Ross Carter officiating.
