John Howard Barnes, 70, of Elon passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, July 26, 2020.
A native of Nash County, he is survived by his wife, Joan Baker Barnes and son, Don Barnes, both of the home. In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by a son, Al Barnes and wife Kim of Clinton, NC; two granddaughters, Amber Barnes of Whitsett and Kristi Barnes of Gibsonville; grandson, Carson Barnes of Clinton, NC; two great grandchildren, Sophia Capps and Savannah Capps; sister, Georgia Grant of Minnesota; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Kaye Elliott of Cedar Point, NC.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Canon Barnes, Jr. and Barbara Yates Barnes; grandchild, Ryan Thomas Barnes; and brother-in-law, Roy Eugene Baker.
John retired from Norfolk Southern Railway as Supervisor and Gradall Operator with 39 years of service. Along with being a member of the Railroad Retirement Club, he was also a member of Trinity Worship Center where he was in charge of the Food Pantry.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Roger Barefoot with the family will greeting friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. The committal service will be at Alamance Memorial Park. The family request that you follow social distancing protocol and follow the state mandate for wearing masks. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
