Jesse Marvin Coggins, Jr., 89, of Burlington, died peacefully at his home, Thursday, February 14, 2019. He was a native of Spartanburg, SC and was born to the late Jesse Marvin and Gertrude Rose Coggins. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Virginia Kirby Coggins.
He served four years in the US Navy as an electronics technician on the U.S.S. Worcester, Missouri and the Wisconsin. After his discharge he graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and spent his entire working career with Western-Electric and Lucent Technologies. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Johnnie, of the home, one daughter, Natasha Coggins of Greensboro; one granddaughter, Carmin Ashley Ball of Raleigh and one brother, William Kirby Coggins of Spartanburg, SC.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev. Jane Brannock.
The family will receive friends Saturday, the 23rd, from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Alamance Animal Shelter and Services, 221 Stone Quarry Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
