Jefferson Reid Abernathy, 104, passed away on November 15, 2023.
He was born to Walter and Audrey Reid Abernathy in Eccles, West Virginia March 29, 1919. He was married to Eleanor Haywood and Alice Davis Miller. He served in the Navy during WWII as an Electrician’s mate 3rd class from 1937 -1941 and 1942-1945.
He was a member of “The Great Generation”. He retired from Burlington Industries in the engineering department. He was a faithful member of Grove Park Baptist Church serving in many leadership positions.
He is survived by one daughter, Rita Husmann of Snohomish, WA and a stepson, Gary Miller of Elon. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michael Husmann, Rheanna Isakson, and Danielle Peterson, all of Washington; two step grandchildren, Jason Miller (NY) and Kristin Nash (Raleigh, NC); and 13 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.
