                                                               Mrs. Jeanne F. Williams  

 

    Mrs. Jeanne Freeman Williams, 95, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 8, 2019, after a lengthy illness.

    Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the wife of John H. Williams, deceased, and daughter of Albert Moore Freeman and Helen Bishop Freeman.

    Jeanne grew up in Providence, RI. and Newton MA and was a BS graduate of the University of Rhode Island. She was the first woman to receive a MS degree in Experimental Statistics from North Carolina State University in 1946.

    She was professor of statistics at Elon University in the Department of Business and Economics for 25 years and served as department chair from 1961 – 1971.      

   She was a member of First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington for 62 years. Her Christian service over the years included deacon, member of the Official Board, Board of Finance, Women’s Fellowship, Board of Christian Education, Sunday school teacher, Christmas pageant director, grant writer, and many other committees.

    Jeanne was a long-time dedicated member and leader of the Girl Scouts of America, State President of The American Association of University Women, Chair of Alamance Health Planning Council, and on the board of directors for Alamance Eldercare. Her hobbies included gardening and painting. She was a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration and her work was displayed in many exhibits.

    Jeanne loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her daughter Deborah Williams Wilson and husband Lucius Wilson of Elon, son Dr. John B. Williams and wife Lois Ann Williams of Lexington, SC, and son Ross F Williams and wife Bobbie Williams of Raleigh.  Grandchildren include Brendon Ball, Ryan Ball, Heather Kalleberg, Andrew Williams, Laura Williams, Jonathan Williams, David Williams, and Elizabeth Shaffer. Also 11 greatgrandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews

    Jeanne is also survived by her sister Martha F. Brewer of Greensboro and preceded in death by her brother William C. Freeman.

    A celebration of life service will be conducted Friday, June 14, 11:00am, at the First Christian United Church of Christ, 415 South Church Street, Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends in the church parlor at 10:00am. A committal service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery following the service.
