Obituary

Janice Marie Hoskins Kelly, born January 24, 1938, age 83, of Elon, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Corbin, Kentucky, she was the wife of the late Charles James Kelly, II for 43 years and daughter of the late Josiah Hoskins, Jr. and the late Pearl Johnson Hoskins. Janice was a 1956 graduate of Corbin High School, a 1958 graduate of Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY, and a 1959 graduate of Watts Hospital in Durham, NC. Janice formerly worked as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) in Burlington’s General Hospital, Alamance County Hospital, and Memorial Hospital of Alamance. After becoming a mother, Janice worked as a substitute teacher with the Alamance County School System in the Elon area and volunteered with Hospice and Loaves & Fishes Food Bank. Janice was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter where she sang in the choir for many years and was an active member of the ECW.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Kelly Autry and husband Terry of Elon; Jan M. Kelly of Elon; and Eva Kelly McCollum and husband Travis of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Kelly Alexander Autry, Erin Leigh McCollum and Tyler James McCollum. Also, surviving is step-daughter, Tonja Kelly Thomas and husband Danny of Knoxville, TN; and step-grandchildren, James Austin Jeffcoat and wife Krystal, and Julie Ann Jeffcoat Guardarrama and husband Omar, and four step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Joyce Hoskins Ryals and brothers, Herbert Edgar Hoskins and Raymond Eugene Hoskins.

Due to the pandemic restrictions, the family will celebrate Janice’s life privately with a graveside service at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the ARMC Chaplains, (Chris & Cora), Palliative Care Team (Nikki & Shea), Hospice Coordinator (Karen), and ARMC Nurses & NTs who cared for Janice during her final days.
