James Franklin Walker "Jim” left this earth on August 9, 2023. He was born in Greensboro, NC to Claude and Inez Walker. Jim grew up in rural North Carolina on a dairy farm. He was surrounded by a large family, including a sister and dozens of Aunts, Uncles and cousins. In his early years, Jim obtained a B.S. in Engineering and mathematics from North Carolina State University and served in the Army based both in New Jersey and Orleans, France.
Jim spent his career working with various aspects of computer software and continued working right up until the day before he passed away. Jim also served as a scout master and loved the outdoors and camping with the troop.
Jim was an avid musician, He played trumpet and euphonium in several bands throughout his life, in high school, NC State Marching Band, community concert bands and brass bands and several German oompah bands.
Jim was a social man and he especially loved walking his dogs and meeting other dogs and their owners in the neighborhood. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed doing activities with them like para sailing, hiking, and riding a jet ski. Children enjoyed spending time with him because of his quick smile, his zest for life, and his desire to live life to its fullest.
He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Ann, Sister Carolyn, Son, Douglas Walker, 4 Daughters, Cathy Perkinson (Brian) Sheri Walker, Martha Wagner, Amy Watson (David), 9 Grandchildren, Katie and Matthew Perkinson, Victor, Alex and Emily Walker, Catherine (Grant) Allen, Ann Donovan, Jon and Ben(Katie) Garlinghouse, 2 great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Molly Walker and his grandson Jeffrey Austin.
There will be a graveside service held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Union Ridge Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.
Donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the Salvation Army or the ASPCA.
