James William “Bill” Rodgers

     James William “Bill” Rodgers, 73, of Mebane,  passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021, at his residence.  A native of Rockingham County,  he was the husband of Judith Stanfield Rodgers, who survives and the son of James Starling Rodgers and Rosa Inez Prillaman Rodgers, both deceased. He was retired from Duke Energy Co.  Living in many areas while employed with Duke Energy,  Bill was Past President of Rotary International,  where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was Past President of Kiwanis Club and in his younger days,  he was a member of the Jaycees. He obtained his pilot’s license and loved to fly.  He spent many hours in his woodworking shop. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was active in the Furniture Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.

    Other than his wife,  Mr. Rodgers is survived by his daughters, Susan Purvis Hollan, of Burlington and Elizabeth Purvis Navarra and her husband Steve, of Woodstock, Ga.  Also surviving  granddaughters,  Ashley H. Couch and husband, Ben, of Portland, Oregon,  Natalie Navarra, of Woodstock, Ga.,   sister, Jo Huisingh and  husband Don, of Knoxville, Tn.;  brothers, David Rodgers and wife Miradel, of Asheville and John Rodgers and wife, Anne,  of Reidsville.  Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Minter.

    A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday 10/5/2021 at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington. The service will be livestreamed through the church website.

Masks will be required for attendance and please practice social distancing.
