Obituary

Mr. James Eugene “Gene” McVey, 70, of Burlington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Hospice Home on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 1:15 p.m.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Dale McVey, who survives and the son of Thomas Monroe McVey and Martha Ladd Roach McVey, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving 6 ½ years and a veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. McVey was CEO of Marketing Resources of Burlington, Inc. where he received the Disabled Veteran Award for small business. He was a member of St. Mark’s Church and the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). He was an avid Duke fan and loved his John Deere tractors.

In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include a daughter, Kristin McVey of Burlington; son, James McVey and wife Rebecca of Snow Camp; six grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Nathaniel, James Thomas, Elizabeth and Holden; one great-grandchild, Peyton; three sisters, Nancy Stoehr and husband Bruce of Charleston, SC, Vickie McVey of Raleigh and Grey Gwinn of Greenville, NC; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ryan Thomas McVey; three sisters, Mary, Frankie and Betsy; and two brothers, Gary and Griffin.

The funeral service will be conducted at St. Mark’s Church on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Ben Bishop with the family receiving friends from 1:15 until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Friends Meeting House Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to REACH at St. Mark’s Church, P.O. Box 89, Elon, NC 27244.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Richard Letvak, the Hospice Home and Marnie for the loving care and kindness given to Gene.
