James Kenneth Pruitt, Sr.

James Kenneth Pruitt, Sr., 91, of Blakely Hall in Elon and formerly of George Bason Road, Graham, passed away surrounded by his family at AuthoraCare Hospice Home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

A native of South Pittsburgh, TN, he was the loving husband of the late Jean Isley Pruitt and the son of Ernest L. Pruitt and Nellie Cathey Pruitt, both deceased.

James worked for Guilford Dairy as a milkman and later as a manager until the age of 35. At this point in his career, he began working for United Parcel Service where he became a manager until his retirement in 1987. After a few years of traveling with his wife, he then established J. K. Pruitt Hauling with his son Kenny.

James enjoyed trips to the beach with his family, gardening, and fishing. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of people. His family was his greatest blessing and he instilled in them the importance of staying close and being together.

James was a member of Riverside Baptist Church for over 60 years where he was very active serving as deacon, congregational song leader, and choir director. He was a member of the Riverside Quartet with his late wife and 2 lifelong friends. James had a great love of Southern Gospel music and enjoyed visiting and singing for shut ins.

Survivors include three sons, Kenny and wife Kala of Burlington, David and wife Debbie of Graham, and Todd of Baca Raton, FL; five grandchildren, Cassady Clayton and husband Micah, Matt Pruitt and wife Millee, Susan Gerwig and husband Brian, Rachel McCoury and husband Jonathan, and Grayson Pruitt; nine great grandchildren, Dalton, Ella, Audrey, Davis, Cory, James, Isley, Emma, and Noah; three sisters, Shirley Williams of Burlington, Cathy Williams of Burlington, and Brenda Baird of Jamestown; and dear in-laws, Faye Isley and Norris and Judy McDaniel. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Susan Pruitt.

The funeral service will be conducted at Riverside Baptist Church on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Graham Memorial Park.
