Obituary

James Clayton “Dink” Holland, 94, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at White Oak Manor in Burlington.

A native of Rockingham County, Mr. Holland was the husband of the late Helen Phillips Holland and the son of the late Reuben Reid Holland and the late Fannie Baker Holland.

Mr. Holland was retired from AT&T. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. Mr. Holland became a Prisoner of War in early 1945 and was liberated later that year. He was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Holland was a member of the 40 & 8 Club, The Order of the Purple Heart and The Disabled American Veterans. He was an active member of the Walter B. Ellis American Legion Post #63. He served as a member of the Post Honor Guard and visited local schools to explain the history of the US flag to students. Mr. Holland was a Boy Scout of America leader for over 50 years.

Mr. Holland was a former member of Glencoe Baptist Church, until joining Kinnett Memorial Baptist church on July 15, 2012 where the Rev. Don Pegg was his pastor.

He is survived by three sons, James Phillip Holland and wife, Pamela, of Elon, Robert Clayton Holland and wife, Patricia, of Burlington, Jeffrey Reid Holland and wife, Penny of Burlington; four grandchildren, Wendy Paschal, Bobbi Jean Williams, Eva Holland and Clay Holland; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Garland of Burlington, Margaret Carden and husband, Garfield, of Burlington; three brothers, Charlie Holland and wife, Helen, of Madison, Leon Holland and wife, Shirley, of Burlington and Richard Holland and wife, Patricia, of Graham.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Holland was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary Beth Holland, two sisters, Ruby Atkins and Emma Cheek and four brothers, Clarence Holland, Bill Holland, Frank Holland and Otis Holland.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, June 29, 2018 at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington. Other times they will be at the residence of Jeff and Penny Holland, 2112 Walker Ave, Burlington, NC.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 30 at 11:00 am in the Rich and Thompson Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Beverly. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church, 1106 E. Morehead Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
