Mr. James “Jim” Edward Hobbs, 78, of Carolina Shores, NC, passed away on September 22, 2018.
A native of Alamance County, he was the loving husband of Scottie Moore Hobbs of the home. He was the son of Florence Van Bishop Hobbs and Otis Oliver Hobbs and stepmother Cleo Hobbs, all deceased.
Mr. Hobbs was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He graduated from Chadbourn High School and received a Master’s degree while serving in the US Air Force.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he began a second career at Alamance Community College.
He was an instructor in the Business Department at Alamance Community College for 22 years, and served as Department Head. After retirement, Jim, his wife, and his son moved to the coast. Because of his love of teaching, he continued to teach at Horry-Georgetown Technical College where he was recently named part-time Teacher of the Year.
Jim was a loving father to eight children; Mary Hobbs, Helen Hobbs, Kristine Hobbs, James Oliver Hobbs, Angela Fisher (Gerald), Lauren Sutton (Andrew), Lindsey Roten (Steven) and Andrew Hood. Also surviving are ten grandchildren who he enjoyed spending time with and one devoted sister, Helen Moorhatch.
He was happiest spending time with his family and friends. He loved walking on the beach and photography.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
