James Edward “Jim” Hair, 79, of Burlington passed away at ARMC on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Jim was born to William Burton Hair and Virginia Davis Hair in Alamance County in 1940.  He was married to the late Patricia Harrington Hair for over 50 years until her passing in 2018. After graduating from Williams High School, Jim graduated from Lees-McRae College and then attended Elon College. He later went on to serve in the US Army. Jim spent his entire working career at Somers-Pardue where he retired as CEO in 2009. He displayed passion for the business, but the welfare of his employees was paramount. He put them first in every way possible. In addition to his civic service, he was also a long-time member of Alamance Country Club where he served in several roles including President of the Board of Directors. Jim was also a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, enjoyed playing cards with friends and spending time with his beloved granddaughters. Jim was well known for his kindness, generosity, loyalty, and thoughtfulness. He never met a stranger, and he always had a kind word and a nice smile for anyone he met. 

He is survived by his daughter, Laura Hair Owens and husband David of Burlington; granddaughters Larkin Anne Owens and Caroline Elizabeth Owens, both of Burlington; brother Bob Hair and wife Billie of Burlington; brother Wesley Hair and wife Brenda of Burlington; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Glenda Crawford of Burlington, and a host of dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, William Burton Hair, Jr. 

In consideration of the recent mandate on social gatherings, a private graveside service was held at Pine Hill Cemetery for the immediate family. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
