Mrs Jacqueline Mae Pickle Moffitt

Mebane – Mrs. Jacqueline Mae Pickle Moffitt, age 96, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2023 at AuthoraCare Hospice Home in Burlington, NC.

“Jackie” was born in Akron, Ohio on December 17, 1926 to the late Argy Perry and Ida (Hester) Pickle. She spent much of her youth in Mississippi before returning to Ohio where she met her future husband, married and moved to North Carolina with him in 1949.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William Haywood Moffitt, her parents, her Aunt Ruby, her sisters, Mary, Josephine and Clara, her brother Milton, and her daughter-in-law Martha (Holt) Moffitt.

She is survived by her children; Ernest Moffitt and Ruby Moffitt both of Mebane, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Jay McPherson (Julie), Elizabeth Wells (Darrell), and Holt McPherson (Amie); three great-grandchildren; Joseph, Owen and Anna; and many nieces and nephews. Her younger brother Argy Pickle resides in Uniontown, Ohio with his wife Shirley.

Jackie was strong and independent, yet had a gentle soul. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a friend to all she met. She worked for many years at Hawfield’s Child Care Center in Mebane. She sometimes joked that she helped raise “half of Mebane”. She had a life-long love of reading and was an avid Tar Heel fan.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham with Rev. Rodney Purcell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service.
