Herbert L. “Herb” Smith, 92, of Graham, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at his home.

A native of Alamance County, Mr. Smith was the husband (for 62 years) of the late Peggy Aldridge Smith and the son of the late Herbert Clegg Smith and the late Estie Rachel Ray Smith.

Mr. Smith began his teaching career at Silk Hope School in Chatham County, but retired from the Burlington City School System in 1988. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Graham (FBC-G) where he served in many capacities over 60+ years.

Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Dina Gayle Grinstead of the home; four sons, H. Stephen Smith (Ione) of Murfreesboro, TN, Wesley Lynn Smith of the home, Rodney L. Smith (Doreen) of Charlotte and Eric D. Smith (Diane) of Coconut Creek, FL; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son-in-law Charlie Grinstead, a granddaughter, Lisa Grinstead Massey and two grandsons, Jeff Grinstead and Reggie Grinstead and four nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 5, 2019 at The First Baptist of Graham at 2:00 PM.

A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm.
