Helene Arrington Smith Edwards

Mrs. Helene Arrington Smith Edwards, 88, of Burlington went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.

A native of Surry County, she was the wife of the late John Cecil Smith and the late E. G. “Bud” Edwards, Jr. and the daughter of R. B. Arrington and Rebecca Inman Arrington, both deceased. She retired from the hosiery manufacturing industry and was a member of Belmont Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Smith Bowman and husband Danny and Darlene Smith Hudson and husband Bill, all of Liberty; son, David Smith and fiancé Denea of Carolina Beach; eight grandchildren, Bill Hudson, Jr., Deanna Hudson Gosnell and husband Patrick, John Smith and wife Kristen, Daniel Bowman, Regenia Bowman Grant and husband Michael, Serena Bowman, Shawn Starling and wife Helen and Jessie Newell; nine great-grandchildren and Baby Grant due in March; sister-in-law, Mary Arrington; and brother-in-law, Frank Fox.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Hassell, Gaston, Raymond, Herman, R.B., Jr. and Curtis Arrington and three sisters, Ruby Lankford, Ruth Alene Arrington and Faye Fox.

The family will receive friends in the Family Center at Belmont Baptist Church on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.

The funeral service will be conducted at Belmont Baptist Church on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Nathaniel Hobbs, Pastor Larry Janey, Retired and Pastor Michael Grant. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
