Hazel Elizabeth Smith

Mrs. Hazel Byerly Smith, 93, of Burlington, passed away at the Village at Brookwood, on Sunday, March 18, 2018.

A native of Orange Co., NC, she was wife of the late Arthur Smith and daughter of the late J. Roby Byerly and Rachel Hunt Byerly. She retired from Tultex Knitting in Martinsville, VA and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Sharon Vogtsberger and husband Oscar of Hampton, VA; a son, Danny Hughes and wife Cecelia of Graham; a sister, Mamie Summers of Gibsonville; two brothers, Roby Byerly, Jr. and Robert Byerly both of McLeansville; six grandchildren; and six great-grand children.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Campbell; two sons, Tommy Hughes and Johnny Hughes; a sister, Ethel Dorsett and four brothers, Bassett, Roy, Herbert and Walter Byerly.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 20, at Alamance Memorial Park with Rev. Eric Dudley officiating.

The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral & Cremation Service in Burlington from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, Monday evening. Other times they will be at the residence of the son, Danny Hughes, 415 Wildwood Lane, Graham.
