Hazel Johnson Montgomery, age 93, a former resident of Burlington and Saxapahaw, North Carolina, died at her home in Bogart, GA on February 24. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Krautler (Charles) and Jeanne Tarrasch (David); four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Dan Montgomery.
Hazel was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church belonging first to the Saxapahaw United Methodist Church and later to the Faith United Methodist Church in Burlington. She was active in the church choir and enjoyed participation in bible study classes and all church related activities. She was an Administrative Assistant with the Alamance County Schools administrative office, retiring after 31 years of employment in 1989.
Hazel enjoyed being a housewife and was an excellent cook. She was devoted to her family and in later years she received great pleasure in telling and writing stories for her grandchildren.
Reverend Lee Edwards of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate at a graveside service at Alamance Memorial Park at 10:00AM on Tuesday, March 2.
