Harold Thomas Baldwin, 96, died peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at The Hospice Home in Burlington, NC following several years of declining health.

 

A celebration of Mr. Baldwin’s life will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Rich & Thompson Funeral Services, 207 East Elm Street, Graham, NC, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Reverend John W. Johnson, Minister of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and Reverend Norman M. Whitney, former Minister at Bethany Presbyterian Church will officiate the service. Burial will be at Graham Memorial Park.

 

Harold was born on September 23, 1920 to Walter Ervin and Bessie Grace Baldwin in Mecklenburg County.  On March 8, 1941, he married Ebbie Stephens in Charlotte, North Carolina. After serving in the Army during World War II from 1943 – 1946, he and Ebbie purchased their first home and became active in Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church. Harold worked at Brown Equipment Company until 1965 when Associated Transport purchased Brown Equipment. In 1966 Associated Transport was relocated to Burlington, NC and Harold was promoted and transferred to Burlington as the Director of Transportation. The Baldwin family moved to Burlington in October 1966. Harold and Ebbie joined and became active in Bethany Presbyterian Church in Graham, NC, where Harold served as a Deacon, an Elder, participated in the Men of the Church, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Church was always an important and essential part of his life.

 

In his spare time, Harold enjoyed woodworking, fishing, growing vegetables in his big garden every summer, growing grapes for his famous “Recipe,” and enjoying his family.

 

Survivors include his sons, Stephen Baldwin (Connie) of Charlotte, NC and Alan Baldwin (Heather) of Burlington, NC; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Baldwin of Boone, NC; five grandchildren, Andrew (Jana) Baldwin of AZ, Anna Baldwin (Jeff) Cordes of CA, Brian (Laura) Baldwin of Blowing Rock, NC, Benjamin Baldwin (Niki Powell) of Boone, NC, and Phillip Baldwin of Boone, NC; one great-granddaughter, Vivian Baldwin of Blowing Rock, NC; two nieces, Amy Buchanan of Alabama and Gail Baldwin Schultz of Charlotte, NC as well as many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ebbie, in 2010 after 69 years of marriage; his parents, his five siblings, his son, Ralph Baldwin in 2006; and his grandson, Stephen Murphy Baldwin.

 

Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1500 South Main Street, Graham, NC  27253, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, for the Hospice Home, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC  27215, or to the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Alamance County scheduled for September 23, 2017, Harold’s birthday.
