Harlan Holt Woody

Mr. Harlan H. Woody, 100, formerly of Graham passed away at White Oak Manor on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mildred W. Woody and Christine Ellington Woody, both deceased and the son of Rufus T. Woody and Ollie Pickard Woody, both deceased. He retired from Melville Dairy and later in life, he worked for Ausley Florist and Moorefield Florist.

Mr. Woody was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he was a member of the Army’s 77th Evacuation Hospital Medical Detachment in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart in the 1940s for the injuries he sustained in battle and was presented six Bronze Service Star Medals.

Survivors include a son, Freddy R. Woody; daughter, Karen Ellington Curtis and husband Jevon; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one step-son, Harold Ellington; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; seven step-great-great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Judy Ellington Strickland; step-son, Robert Glen Ellington; sister, Ruby Woody Fogleman; and two brothers, Walter Woody and Cary Woody.

A private graveside service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Snow Camp, NC with a public memorial service to be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at White Oak Manor and Hospice of Alamance and Caswell. They were a loving and caring group who became his second family.
