It is with tremendous sorrow that the family of Gregory Alan Myers announces his passing on March 19th, 2019, at the age of 62. Greg passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, after a long and arduous battle with lung cancer. His faith, family, and friends were his life. He is survived by family including his wife, Julie Minnick Myers; son William Myers and wife Catie-Jane and their son Jonah Gregory; daughter Erin Pawelek and husband Joe; His sister Lisa Campbell and husband Stuart, and their two children Bryan and Matt; His brother Doug Myers and wife Connie, and their two children Seth and Sean; His life-long best friend Ed Connor, along with so many other close friends and family.
Greg worked several jobs over the course of his career as an engineer for AT&T/Lucent Technologies, and TPRC in Greensboro, NC. His work was important but was always the fuel for his faith and family. He was a giver; outward, and introspective. His hobbies included woodworking, or as he called it making sawdust; gardening, though he never seemed to get that asparagus to grow behind his work shop, and crossword puzzles.
Greg was born in 1956 in Harford, Maryland. He was raised in St. Albans, West Virginia and was a graduate of St. Albans High School. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and later earned his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. Greg and Julie moved to Burlington, NC, in 1990, where they raised William and Erin, and have resided ever since. Greg was an active member of Macedonia Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School, and was also an Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1.
Every year for the fourth of July, he and his family would attend the Eye family reunion in Franklin, WV where his Mother, Imogene Eye Myers, was raised. Family was his focus. If you were to ask Greg what he did right in life, he wouldn’t hesitate, and we all would agree, that Family would be the answer. His Faith cultivated values of love, understanding, patience, giving, and drive; and these values amongst countless others were emanated into anyone he met.
Greg was preceded in death by his Father William “Bill” Myers, and Mother Imogene “Imy” Myers.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 22nd, at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington, NC from
6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Macedonia Lutheran Church in Burlington, NC, on Saturday, March 23rd, at 2 pm with Pastor Richard Goeres officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Macedonia Lutheran Church where they will be used for their scholarship fund.
