Obituary

                                                                              GREGORY SCOTT BOOKER
                                                                                            1960 - 2019

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Gregory Scott Booker, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 58 after a courageous battle with melanoma. Greg was born on June 22, 1960 in Burlington, North Carolina. He graduated from Hugh M Cummings High School in 1978 in Burlington and attended Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. Greg loved sports and was a well-rounded athlete growing up. In his career, he pursued his passion of baseball and pitched in the major league for 8 seasons from 1983 to 1990 with San Diego, Minnesota and San Francisco. He started a coaching career in 1992 with the Cleveland organization with the Burlington Indians and later served as a major league pitching and bull pen coach up to 2003. He most recently was a scout with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On December 19, 1981 Greg married the love of his life, Kristi Ann McKeon of Elon and together they raised four children Braylee Moore (Will) and Mallory Tillotson (Joshua) of Burlington; Zach (fiancé Samantha) and Avery Booker of Elon. Greg was a beloved “Paw” to four grandchildren, Maddox and Miller Moore and Drake and Islee Tillotson and several nieces and nephews. He was a much-loved brother and son-in-law and considered a true and honest friend. Greg is survived in life by two sisters Nancy Wilkie (Mike) and Pam Montgomery (Marc) of Alamance County and preceded in death by his mother (Gail), father (Harold) and brother (Keith) Booker.

Greg’s love in life was his family and surrounded himself with “his people.” Kristi, his wife of 37 years, was his greatest love. She was his joy, his rock and his inspiration. Their family was close and his activities and travels revolved around their activities and achievements. Greg loved reading and gardening. He self-taught himself on the guitar and enjoyed wood-working. He could often be found at the ballpark at one of his grandchildren’s games or at a school activity. He enjoyed advising his sons on baseball strategies, Sunday football and target practice in the backyard. Greg will be remembered for his wit and humor, his infectious smile and laugh, and compassionate spirit for his close friends. His voice will resonate in our lives in the days, weeks and years to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019 at Lamb’s Chapel on Highway 62 in Burlington at 4 o’clock p.m. The family will receive friends and family at the home in Elon and following the service in the vestibule. Memorials may be sent to the Melanoma Research Foundation.
