Mrs Frances LaVerne Hughes

Laverne Hughes, 91, passed away peacefully at Alamance Regional Medical Center after recent failing health on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, in Burlington, North Carolina. Laverne was born on November 6, 1928, in Starkville, Mississippi, daughter of Zelma and Marvin Whitt. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry G. Hughes Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Lavelle; her sister Linda; her daughter Judy; and her grandson, Todd Pulliam. She is survived by her children: Scott Hughes, Ellen Boone (Bill), Stacie Moss (Tripp) and Kelly Hughes (Terri). She was the grandmother of John Hartsough III, Megan Boone, Emily Boone, and Rachel Boone. She was the great grandmother of Jaxson and Declan Hartsough.

Laverne will be remembered for her kind and selfless nature, which she carried gracefully throughout her life. She had a passion for scripture and enjoyed reading novels and poetry. She had a love for animals and gave back to the community by supporting various charities. Laverne will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at the Raleigh National Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Wednesday, July 29, at 11:00 am. The family will greet friends at the home of Ellen and Bill Boone on Tuesday, July 28, at 4:00 pm.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, National Audubon Society, or the Disabled American Veterans.
