Florence Lou Moore Ellenberg Spitzner, 87, of Mebane passed away at Duke University Medical Center on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 12:00 noon.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Alfred Spitzner and the daughter of William Jenning Moore, Sr. and Mattie Bell Foreman Moore Morris, both deceased.
Mrs. Spitzner was a graduate of Gray’s Chapel High School, Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA and Elon College in 1965. She retired as an elementary school teacher from Hillcrest Elementary School. Prior to her teaching career, she was employed with Western Electric for 10 years. She was a member of the Gay Blades Garden Club, earned the title of Master Gardener, and was also a member of the Reviewers Book Club. Lou was a member of Trinity Worship Center, the Progressive Sunday School Class and the Seniors Group. She also started the Little People’s Church and worked at the Food Pantry at the church.
Survivors include a son, V. Keith Ellenberg of Atlanta, GA; step son, Kurt Spitzner of Steamboat Springs, CO; step daughter, Kari Wilkinson and husband Mike of Haw River; step grandson, Curry Wilkinson; sister, Rachel Williamson; two brothers, W. J. Moore, Jr. and George Moore and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Jane Moore; and many special nieces, nephews and adopted sons. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joanna Hopkins and brother, Charles Moore.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel, 306 Glenwood Avenue, Burlington on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. by Rev. Darrell Cox. The family will greet friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
