Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend Eugenia “Gene” Louisa Goley Pruitt
passed away peacefully on May 13th, 2020.
She was born February 20, 1936 in Graham, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ronald Anthony Pruitt (married 57 years!), her parents Dr. Willard Coe Goley and Mrs. Eugenia Fairley Goley, brothers Willard Coe Goley, Jr (Mary Ann) and Alexander Fairley Goley (Sallie). She is survived by daughter Elizabeth Goley Pruitt Dunn (James) of Spartanburg, SC and sons David Anthony Pruitt (Kelley) of Greensboro, NC and William Fairley Pruitt (Susan) of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her 5 granddaughters who were her pride & joy: Olivia Grace Magnuson (Chad), Faith Elizabeth Dunn, Louisa Catherine Dunn, Anna Grace Pruitt and Kate Fairley Pruitt.
Gene grew up in Graham and graduated from Graham High School. She went on to graduate from Converse College in 1958 and soon after wed her sweetheart, Ron Pruitt. His training moved them to Richmond, VA, Durham & Gastonia, NC before they finally made their home in Burlington, NC.
Gene was kind, gracious, vivacious and had an immense gift for loving people well. She was fun, loved to tell a story and could talk to anyone. She was a devoted wife, mother & mother-in-law and grandmother. An active member of The First Presbyterian Church, she served as Deacon, Elder, Circle Leader, in the Chancel Choir, on the Bereavement Committee, achieved Life Membership of Presbyterian Women and remained an avid studier of God’s Word. She was a member of The Alamance County Medical Auxiliary, Christian Women’s Club and served in many volunteer capacities. She loved entertaining at home, planning parties, traveling, cooking, music and playing bridge. But Gene was BEST known for ‘being there in the hard times’ . . . she was quick to prepare a meal, bring a thoughtful gift, make a phone call, send cards, sit with you and especially show up with her famous boiled custard. She cared deeply for everyone she knew. She could never complete her list of “people she wanted to do something for”! If Gene was in your life, you were blessed!
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Linwood Cemetery, 321 E. Elm Street, Graham, NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Burlington and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell.
