Mrs Ethel Sykes Allred

Mrs. Ethel Sykes Allred, 98, of Burlington passed away at Homeplace of Burlington on Wednesday, June 26. She was born January 20, 1921.

A native of Alamance County, she was married for 66 years to the late Norman Everett Allred and the daughter of Alvis Eugene Sykes and Elsie Capps Sykes.

Upon graduation from Burlington Business College, Mrs. Allred went to work for the Sykes Foundry & Machine Company where she became Treasurer and later President of Sykes Supply Company. In retirement, she was an avid golfer and traveled extensively with her husband to numerous golf courses in North and South Carolina and Florida. She was a member of the Alamance Country Club Ladies Golf Association and the Altrusa Club.

She was a life long member of Davis Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Builders Sunday School Class.

She is survived by three daughters, Sue Allred Hepler of Burlington, Dr. Norma Allred of Roswell, Georgia, and Becky Keyes and husband Terry of Matthews, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Todd Langley and wife Sheila, Will Keyes and wife Katie, Allison Keyes; and two great-grandchildren, Keaton and Karlynn Keyes.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her six brothers: Kassel Sykes, George Sykes, Ervin Sykes, Lonnie Sykes, Gene Sykes, Taylor Sykes and two sisters, Irene Kraycirik and Lillian Champion.

The family would like to thank the staff of Homeplace of Burlington for their loving care especially Bonnie, Tammy, Brian, and Kim. A special heart felt thanks to Hospice staff for their compassion, devotion and guidance for Mrs. Allred and her family during her declining health and death.

The funeral service will be conducted at Davis Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 29th at 2:00 PM by Rev. Edgar De Jesus with eulogy by Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Pat Sykes. Special music will be performed by Bonnie Mehring and Landon Brown. The family will receive friends and relatives from 12:30 to 1:45 PM in the church prior to the service. Burial will be at Alamance Memorial Park.
