Esther Perry "Granny" Blanchard

After a long and happy life, Esther Perry Blanchard went to her heavenly home November 18, 2022 at the age of 93. Esther was affectionately called “Granny” by many who knew her.

Esther was the daughter of the late Erma Starling Perry. Loving her family always topped her priority list. Esther leaves behind: her daughter, Perry Slade (Danny); daughter-in-law, Dayle Blanchard; granddaughters, Marsha Hicks (Lee), Morgan Keenan (Mike), Marla McComas (Justin), and Mallory Brame (Wesley); great-grandchildren, Hunter Hicks, Tucker Keenan, Sadie Brame, Savannah Brame, Nolan McComas, Nora McComas; and sister, Joyce McDaniel.

She was preceded in death by: her mother, Erma Perry; husband, Bethel F. (B.F.) Blanchard, Jr.; son, Bethel F. (Freddie) Blanchard, III; great-granddaughter, Laney Grace McComas.

Esther grew up in the village of Alamance, skating in the streets, playing in the creek, attending Alamance Lutheran Church and making lifelong friends. She graduated from E.M. Holt School.

She married the love of her life, B.F., in 1950 and moved to the country. Esther and B.F. worked the family farm together. In addition to farm duties, Esther cooked scrumptious meals for the tobacco crew, children she and B. F. loved like their own.

In addition to her farm work, Esther worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Kayser Roth Mills. Following her husband’s death, she catered for many. She was known for her wedding cakes, cake squares, and cheese straws.

As long as her health allowed, Esther was an active member of Long’s Chapel Christian Church. She was a member of the Ladies’ Sunshine Class and a member of the Women’s Fellowship. One of her favorite church activities was making Chrismons for the church Chrismon tree.

The family will lay Esther to rest at Long’s Chapel Christian Church in a private ceremony. A memorial service will be held at Long’s Chapel Christian Church, 2364 N. NC 49 Hwy., Burlington on Wednesday, November 23rd at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long’s Chapel Christian Church – Esther Blanchard Memorial Fund.
