Obituary


Ernest Ward Boone, Sr., 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 7, 2022.

He was the husband of Carmen U. Boone, who survives, and the son of Fred L. and Ruth E. Boone, both deceased.

He was born August 9, 1932 in Chatham County, Pittsboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Pittsboro High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He retired from LabCorp December 2000 with 22 years of service as a Logistics Courier. He was honored with an award for creating two national slogans for LabCorp, “Safety in Mind – Accidents Decline” and “Defensive Drivers are Survivors”.

He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Graham, North Carolina.

He never met a stranger and had lots of friends that he cherished. He loved his church family. In his 89 years of life, he was a dedicated soldier for the Lord, serving as a deacon, and Sunday School teacher, sharing the good news of the Gospel. In retirement he had a ministry for the elderly by serving as a nursing home volunteer, sharing songs and the Word of God. He was a faithful soul-winner for His Lord.

He loved his family and the times when there were family gatherings. He enjoyed sharing his beautiful roses that he grew. He took pride in his roses. He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. He loved to take his grandchildren fishing and he also loved the men’s fishing trips to the coast planned by the church members.

In addition to his wife Carmen, he is survived by his daughter, Auburn Cook and her husband Edward, both of Mebane, North Carolina, and his sons, Paul Boone and Karen Fulford, both of Mebane, North Carolina, Ernest Boone, Jr. of Graham, North Carolina, and William Boone and his wife Melissa, both of Mebane. North Carolina. He had five grandchildren, Scott Boone of Roswell, Georgia, Anna Poole and Andrew, both of Snow Camp, North Carolina, Brendan Cook of Walkertown, North Carolina, Phillip Boone of Winchester, Virginia, and Katlyn Scott and Blake, both of Graham, North Carolina. He had two great grandchildren, Greyson Poole and Elyse Poole of Snow Camp, North Carolina. He has one surviving sister, Anne Mathes of Tampa, Florida. He was preceded in death by sisters, Emily Glenn, Auburn Harris, Ethel Stroud, and Helen Norwood, and brothers William “Buck” Boone and Dr. George Boone.

The visitation and funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 for Mr. Boone at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Graham, North Carolina. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Brandon Rouse and Rev. Don Pegg presiding. Interment will follow at Graham Memorial Park, 1402 East Gilbreath Street, Graham, North Carolina.
