Obituary

Emma Marie Crawford Gumm, 78, of Haw River, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at her residence.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of 60 years to Harold Dean Gumm, who survives, and the daughter of Dewey Crawford and Lula Mae Shore Crawford, both deceased. She retired from the Alamance County Mental Health Department where she was the reimbursement officer and served on the board of the North Carolina Mental Health FARO (Finance and Reimbursement Officers) and served as president. After retirement, she enjoyed serving on the Alamance County Board of Elections and served as head judge in her district. Mrs. Gumm was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, financial secretary, treasurer, and served on many other church committees including the fall festival and bereavement committee. She competed in a marksman club called SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) and her alias name was “Ruslin Waters”.

In addition to her husband, Harold Dean Gumm, survivors include two children, David Lee Gumm and wife Angela of Mebane and Katherine Durham and husband Craig of Snow Camp; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Gumm Parriman and husband Chris, Matt Durham, Rachel Berglund and husband Ryan, Katie Durham, and Adam Durham; one great grandchild, Emery Parriman; three brothers, Bobby Crawford, Roland Crawford, and James “Bud” Crawford; three sisters, Joan Dixon, Judy Shambley, and Betty Craven; and special friends, Charlene Eastman, Amanda O’Neill, and family.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Crawford and Charles Milton Crawford.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Lister officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 PM prior to the service on Monday at Salem United Methodist Church and at other times will be at the residence.
