Obituary

Ella Sampson Gibson, 86, of Burlington, died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a few months of declining health.  Ella was known to be one of the sweetest and most giving individuals you would ever meet.  She was one to always look for the good in someone rather than their faults. She believed everyone deserved a chance and would do almost anything to help them in a time of need.  
 
Born December 12, 1931 in Johnson City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Sherman A. Sampson and the late Ruth Marion Oliver Sampson. Ella worked along side her brother in the family owned Sampson Market since she was 5 years old.  Ella and her family would spend each summer traveling the 48 states throughout the continental US. Ella was involved in several sports in High School including basketball, volleyball and swimming.   
 
Ms. Gibson began her career as an X-ray technician after graduating from Johnson City High School in 1951. She then worked with Link Aviation for 4 years in NY before moving to Burlington, NC.  She retired from Burlington Industries after 32 years of service & has worked for the Alamance County Health Department for the last 14 years.
 
She was a devoted member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and a member of the Daughters of the Eastern Star were she was crowned Queen.
 
Ms. Gibson is survived by her son, Scott G. Gibson; her granddaughter, Jennifer Kamenides and her husband, Timothy; two grandchildren, Kaley and Mason Kamenides and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joe S. Gibson, grandson, Gary Gibson and a brother, Emerick Sampson.
 
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. 
 
The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Jerry Bryan. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
 
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
