Edward Cobb Dupree, 89, of Elon, NC, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at The Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 17, 1930 in Angier, NC to Leonard and Rena Dupree, Ed graduated from Angier High School and went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. He and his wife, June, moved to Elon, NC in 1956 in order for him to attend Elon College. Ed worked in the purchasing department at Burlington Industries until his retirement.
Ed was an active member of First Baptist Church of Elon where he attended the Disciples Sunday School Class. He enjoyed participating in the monthly men’s breakfast and bible study and also served in many different leadership roles within the church. Ed’s interests included playing tennis and golf, watching sports, working in the yard, listening to music, beach trips, church activities and taking naps. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his wife of over 64 years, June Saunders Dupree; his children, Jeannie Huffines (Terry), Susan Dupree and Mike Dupree all of Burlington; his grandchildren, Jeremy Gray of Burlington, Emily Britt (Donald) of Wilmington, Wyatt Dupree and Adair Dupree of Fletcher.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Elon at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dr. David Durham officiating. The entombment will be at Alamance Memorial Park following the service. The visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington, NC. At other times, the family will gather at the Dupree home.
