Earl Langdon "Buddy" Thomas

Mr. Earl Langdon Thomas “Buddy” went to be with our Lord on March 14, 2019. He was born on October 18, 1930, in Gastonia, N. C. Earl is the son of the late Earl Alvin Thomas and Thelma Thomas Kitchings. A graduate of Nova University in Davie, Florida, he was a dedicated teacher. A friend of animals, Earl fed a colony of feral cats for many years in all kinds of weather. As an amateur photographer, he won awards including first place for his photograph of the Old Mill in Oak Ridge, N. C. in an Our State Magazine’s photo contest. Earl enjoyed reading and writing short stories. He wrote and published a book of short stories. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed trying out new restaurants wherever he visited. He threw the javelin in the Senior Olympics. Earl was always eager to enjoy life to the fullest with his family and friends. He was of the Baptist faith, had a kind and gentle soul, and was active in the pro-life movement.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Noma Workman Thomas. They were married for 57 years. Earl’s family includes his daughter, Dianne Thomas McClamroch (Julian), God daughter, Terry Mellender Rollins, (Judson), grandchildren, Christopher McClamroch (Chelsea), Joseph McClamroch (Lisa), Michelle McClamroch McColl (Matt), and Philip McClamroch (Savannah). Earl has seven great grandchildren, Spencer, Emily, and Tyler McColl, Lucas, Amelia, Samuel, and Lydia McClamroch. He is blessed with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and wonderful friends whom he loved. We will miss you Dad.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. by Rev. Don Pegg with the family receiving friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
