Obituary

Mr. E. Paul McBane, 87, of Snow Camp passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 surrounded by his family.

 

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Shelby Saunders McBane, who survives and the son of Ross S. McBane and Beulah Andrews McBane, both deceased.

 

Mr. McBane was owner of McBane Farm and Fertilizer. He was a retired charter member of the Eli Whitney Fire Department and charter member of the Eli Whitney Ruritan Club where he received the first award ever given by the club, 2018 Agri-Business Person of the Year Award. He also received the 1959 Young Farmer of the Year. Mr. McBane had served on the Advisory Board for Southern Alamance High School. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Sword of Peace along with serving on the Board of Directors of several financial institutions in Alamance County. As a young man, Paul received a scholarship to attend Elon College for baseball, but decided to remain on the farm and help run the business. Sports were always a large part of his life. This continued into his older years playing with the Senior Softball League until age 75. He was also an avid water skier.  Mr. McBane was of the Quaker faith. He was dedicated to serving his neighbors and community in Alamance County.

 

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Cathy McBane Marley and husband Dwayne of Snow Camp; son, Steve McBane and wife Cheryl of Snow Camp; three grandchildren, Tracy Cobb and husband Sam of Snow Camp, Tori Daniel and husband Wesley of Wilmington and Taylor Marley of Snow Camp; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Una McBane Jeffries of Charlotte; and brother, Donald McBane of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Saunders McBane; grandson, Christopher Michael McBane; and brother, Burton McBane.

 

The funeral service will be conducted at The Lambs Chapel, 3539 Alamance Road, Burlington, NC  27215 on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. by Rev. Dr. Bill Jeffries and Rev. Phil Seay with the family receiving friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Spring Friends Meeting House Cemetery, Snow Camp, NC.  Other times the family will be at the residence.

 

Memorials may be made to the F.F.A. Southern High School, 631 Southern High School Road, Graham, NC  27253 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
