Dorothy “Mama Dot” Murray, 96, of Mine Creek Road, Burlington passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 13, 2020 following one month of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of 69 years to David Carlton Murray, who survives and the daughter of Turner Tickle and Mary Hudgins Tickle, both deceased. For 30+ years, she operated a home childcare. She was a member of CrossWay Church, formerly known as Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church. Dot was a Sunday School teacher, former President of the Women’s Ministry, choir member and Joy Club member.
In addition to her husband of their home, survivors include two daughters, Renae Allison and husband Gary of Graham and Lorie Gaines and husband Darrell of Elon; three grandchildren, Jordan Gaines, Alexandria Gaines and Hope Dodson and husband Jeff; two great grandchildren, Landon and Noah Dodson; and two sisters, Ruby Simmons of Burlington and Wonnie Collins of Chapel Hill. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Hall, Lossie Austin and Doris Moore.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 12:00 noon by Rev. Garry Yeatts with the family receiving friends from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Livestreaming will be available. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
