Dorothy (Dot) Olive Jackson, 91, died Monday evening, April 16, 2018 at her home in Burlington after a lengthy illness.
Born in Washington, DC, to John and Cora Olive, Dot grew up in Oak Grove, VA. She moved to Burlington at the time of her marriage to her husband of 43 years, Albert Jackson, who preceded her in death.
After raising a family, she had a career as a drapery consultant with Sears in Burlington, where she worked until her retirement. She was a devoted member of Grove Park Baptist Church and spent years as a volunteer with Alamance Regional Cancer Center, Meals on Wheels and other community service groups.
Dot was a remarkable woman, with a delightful sense of humor and a warm and generous spirit. She led a life of service to her faith and family, and dedicated each day to helping make the lives of those around her better. Her countless acts of kindness and care impacted untold lives through the years.
Dot is survived by daughter Linda Edgerton and husband Tom, daughter Diane Walker and husband Danny, many treasured nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial celebration will be conducted at 2 pm Friday, April 20, 2018 at Grove Park Baptist Church in Burlington by Rev. David Morton. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, Hospice of Greensboro, Grove Park Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
