Clayton Jerry "Jay" Thomas

Mr. Clayton Jerry “Jay” Thomas, 73, of Burlington was promoted to heaven on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 7:44 p.m. while at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A native of Abingdon, VA, he was the husband of Sandra Sue Thomas, who survives and the son of Clayton Rufus Thomas and Edna Mahala Thomas, both deceased. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and was a retired computer technician having worked at National Cash Register Corporation, NCR and Getronics, Inc. He was an active member of Harvest Hills Church of God, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Danita Thomas Lackey and husband John of Burlington; three grandchildren, Hunter Lackey, Parker Lackey and Ava Grace Lackey; three brothers, Vandal Thomas and wife Gail of Altus, OK, Harold Thomas and wife Beverly of Little Rock, AR and Ronald Thomas and wife Darlene of Glade Springs, VA; sister, Ramona Wilson and husband Larry of Asheville, NC; and sister-in-law, Ellen Thomas of Abingdon, VA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Thomas in heaven.

The funeral service will be conducted at Harvest Hills Church of God on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. Russell Morris. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
