Mr. Claude Ellsworth “C.E.” Brown, 91, of Burlington passed away at the Hospice Home on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 7:12 p.m.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Ruth Coble Brown and son of Claude M. Brown and Madge Dunning Brown, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War 11 in the Division Acorn 52. Mr. Brown was former owner of C. E. Brown Builders and Construction and Suburban Mobile Home Court. He attended Baptist Temple of Alamance County.
C. E. loved to play golf, gardening, crocheting and built over 300 bluebird houses for family and friends. He was a member of the Bula Lodge #409 A.F. and A.M.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynette Brown Stewart and husband Wayne of Amissville, VA and Hope Shepherd and husband Jeff of the Village of Alamance; his son, Joel E. Brown and wife Beverly of Burlington; six grandchildren, Sunni Walters, Whitney Sandor, Mackenzie Brown, Justin Duszlak, Laura Takla, and Jeffrey Shepherd; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Orphelia B. Yarbrough and Haver Lee Adams and three brothers, Dexter Brown, Pete Brown and J.C. Brown.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Donald R. Carter with the family receiving friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
