Mrs. Christine Tew Barbee, 97, formerly of Graham passed away at Alamance Health Care Center on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:27 a.m.
A native of Sampson County, she was the wife of the late Ralph E. Barbee and the daughter of Albert Tew and Maude McCorquodale Tew, both deceased. Mrs. Barbee was a retired switchboard operator for the Raleigh News & Observer. She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She loved her family and friends and wrote to them daily. She also loved to travel.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Ryan and husband Allan of Graham; son, Lee Barbee and wife Donna of Clayton; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Barbee of Clayton; four grandchildren, Dian Frazier and husband Joey, Allison Stroud and husband Jeremy, Jason Barbee and Tyler Barbee; and six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Nathan and Rebecca Frazier, Katie and Daniel Stroud and Rylee Barbee. She was preceded in death by a son, Gene Barbee; grandchild, Randy Barbee; great-grandchild, William Stroud; and two sisters, Aline Lineberry and Jo White.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 2 until 3 p.m. The funeral service will follow at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham at 3:00 p.m. by Pastor Jay O’Dell. Entombment will be held at the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Clayton, NC at a later date.
