C. Peter "Pete" Nickerson

C. Peter “Pete” Nickerson, 60, of Burlington, NC died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his home with his loved ones by his side after a brave 20 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

A native of Rockville, CT, Mr. Nickerson is survived by his wife, Anne Genecco Nickerson and is the son of the late Charles L. Nickerson and the late Mary Haley Nickerson.

Mr. Nickerson graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors of Science degree in Horticulture. He was the former owner and operator of Somersville Gardens, in Somers, CT and manager at Baker Nursery.

Mr. Nickerson was a member of The Friends of the Library and served on the Board of Directors of the Ellington Public Library.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, Mr. Nickerson is survived by his daughter, Stephanie M. Nickerson, of Philadelphia, PA; his beloved dog, Cooper; three sisters, Carol Nickerson of Champaign-Urbana, IL, Robin Travis (Lester), of Wayne, NY, Nancy Chase (Richard) of Pomfret Center, CT; two brothers, Stephen Nickerson (Arlene), of Franktown, CO, Bruce Nickerson (Corrie) of Glastonbury, CT; his close friend, Kathi Nickerson of Old Saybrook, CT; brother-in-law, David Genecco (Carol) of Canandaigua, NY, sister-in-law, Nancy Tirabassi (Gerald) of Rochester, NY, brother-in-law, Thomas Genecco (Dorothy) of San Juan, TX, sister-in-law, Su Genecco (Antonio DeBiase); mother-in-law, Mary Z. Genecco and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nickerson was preceded in death by sister, Holly S. Nickerson, brother-in-law, Paul Genecco, sister-in-law Francine Genecco and his father-in-law, Francis Genecco.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 6th, 2019 at 2pm, at Peace Haven Community Farm – 1458 NC Highway 61 in Whitsett, NC 27377; a reception will follow.
