Obituary

Charles Vivien "Jack" Howerton, 92, passed away on Sunday April 8, 2018 at Brookdale Burlington. He was a native of Guilford County, NC. He was the son of the late Charlie and Sally Howerton, and the husband of the late Bettie R. Howerton.
He was a proud WWII US Navy veteran who served aboard the destroyer USS John R Pierce (DD 753) and the attack transport USS Pondera (APA 191) in the southern Pacific theater. He owned and operated Modern Shoe Shop for 58 years. He was a member of the American Legion, the Burlington Shrine Club and Past Master of Bula Masonic Lodge #409. He was also a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mamie Kruger and Jean Cohen.
Survivors include daughters Jackie Lynn Howerton (Robert Hodge) of North Carolina and Susi Ray (Darrell) of Florida, and sister-in-law Jackie R. Snyder of Virginia.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1pm at Alamance Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2331 La Vista Drive, Burlington, NC 27215. The family sends a special thank you to the caring staff and caregivers from Always Best Care and the staff of Brookdale Burlington as well as Hospice for their care and compassion.
