Obituary

Carolyn Burke Allred, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 surrounded by her family at Village at Brookwood, Edgewood Place.

 

A native of Alamance County, she was born on May 13, 1939 to the late Gordon Keith Burke and Lillian Blanchard Burke. She was the wife of the late Don Clinton Allred.

 

She graduated from Williams High School in 1957 and then from Rowan School of Nursing in 1961 as a Registered Nurse.  Her nursing career expanded over four decades and included working as a Registered Nurse at Kernodle Clinic, Alamance County and Memorial Hospitals, as well as Alamance Regional Medical Center.  Carolyn was well known for her compassionate and loving care of her patients and she had the pleasure of working with many medical professionals, many of whom became her lifelong friends. In addition to working as a nurse, Carolyn co-owned and operated the original Two For Tea Room. After retiring, she enjoyed working part time for Dr. Dwayne Callwood and Gifts on Main.

 

She was a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Golden Circle Group. She was also a member of the Alamance Historical Society.

 

Survivors include her son, Keith Allred (Karoleigh) and daughter, Caroline Allred Parker (Kevin); grandchildren Burke and Ashleigh Allred and Michael and Lillian Katherine (Lilli Kate) Parker; brother and sister in law, David and Nell Allred; nephew David Allred Jr. and niece Amy Allred Hester; great nieces Madeleine and Ainsley Byrd.

 

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Village at Brookwood, Edgewood Place as well as special caregiver Vanessa Worth.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:45 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Burlington followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm in the Rich & Thompson Chapel and a graveside burial at Alamance Memorial Park.

 

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Keith and Karoleigh Allred at 2904 Forestdale Drive, Burlington.
