Mrs Carol Stewart Smith

Mrs. Carol Stewart Smith, 67, of Haw River, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Duke University Medical Center after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Vance County, she was wife of the late Roger Neal Smith, and daughter of the late Thomas Jay Stewart and Mildred B. Stewart, who survives. Mrs. Smith was retired from the NC Board of Pharmacy with 30 years of service. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, and Saints Alive.

Surviving are her mother, Mildred B. Stewart of Graham; two daughters, Hope Shirley and husband Brad of Boiling Spring Lakes and Caroline Sykes and husband Philip of Haw River; seven grandchildren, Rachel Shirley, Bryana Shirley, Blake Melancon, Ben Lee Sykes, Autumn Sykes, Launa Sykes and Ian Sykes; three sisters, Linda Bailey, Brenda Justice and Denise Gattis; a brother, Scott Stewart; a brother in law, Allen Smith and wife Phyllis; a host of nieces and nephews; and best friend Rachel Paris.

Carol was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom and Maw-Maw. She will be remembered fondly for her unwavering faith, her servant’s heart and her fun loving and adventurous spirit. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, June 21, at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Lister officiating. The burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall from 1:00 – 2:30 PM prior to the service.
