Brenda Horton Gerner

Brenda Horton Gerner, 81, of Gibsonville, NC passed away at her residence on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

A native of Morganton, NC, she was the wife of Donald Brooks Gerner, who survives, and the daughter of Homer Maddox Helms and Jacksie Elma Lowdermilk Helms, both deceased. She worked as a weaving instructor for many years at Cone Mills. Brenda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Caswell Ward and the Relief Society of the church.

In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include her children, Teresa Horton of Thomasville, Darrell Horton and wife Wy of Gibsonville, and Jeannie Moore and husband Jeffrey of Greensboro; four sisters, Dorothy Plyler of Locust, Jacqueline Helms of Gibsonville, Joyce Evans of Bolivia, and Robyn Tucker of Greenville, SC; her grandchildren, Jake Furnace, Danielle Daniels, Sydney Taller, Isabelle Moore, Darrell McGuire, Samantha Christopher, David Horton, Stephen Horton, and Jamie Helms; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Horton Cathey; grandson, Christopher Leach; and sister, Gail Allman.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints-Caswell Ward on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
