Boyd Maxton “Max” Ward, 87, of Burlington passed away at his residence on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 12:01 a.m.
A native of High Point, he was the husband of Colleen Crenshaw Ward, who survives and the son of Boyd Wesley Ward and Dora Sink Ward, both deceased. Max graduated from North Carolina State College with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial engineering. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant and served as an officer in the U. S. Army. Following the Korean War, he gained employment with Western Electric where he worked in the engineering department for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time volunteering at Alamance Regional Medical Center, tending to his flowers and vegetable garden, and entertaining his grandsons. Max was an avid Wolfpacker. In addition to holding season tickets for both football and basketball, he also served as the local Wolfpack Club Chairman for many years. A lover of dogs, Max was an advocate for the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier breed. Not only did he own and show Wheatens, he also supported the national Wheaten rescue group, fostering several dogs along the way.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Cyndy Clodfelter and husband Tim of Winston-Salem; son, David Ward and wife Mary of Burlington; three grandsons, Ben Clodfelter and wife Amber, Nate and Cameron Ward; and great-granddaughter, Izzy Clodfelter.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends following the service.
