Billie Sue Harden Hornaday

Mrs. Billie Sue Harden Hornaday, 76, of Elon passed away at her residence on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 12:27 p.m.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of 57 years to Jerry Hornaday, who survives and the daughter of James Garland Harden and Addie Sutton Harden, both deceased.

She was a home healthcare nurse, volunteered with Hospice and dearly loved caring for others. She was talented at crocheting and made 100’s of things for people she loved and worked with over the years.

Her favorite thing to do was fish. She had a pond at home and loved their place at Buggs Island. She could spend hours with her husband and dog “Bunny” over at their spot at the lake.

Her grandkids always called her “Gan”. Many other family and friends adopted this and she was “Gan” to all.

She loved everyone she met and wanted to make sure they knew it. Every time you told her you loved her, her response was always “Love you more”.

In addition to her husband, Jerry, survivors include two daughters, Judy Hornaday Embler and Sue “Charlie” Hornaday Ward and husband Jeff “Poodgie”; grandchildren, Jeffrey Ward and wife Amanda, Geri Embler, Rebekah Embler and Victoria Embler; two great-grandchildren, Paisley Ward and Madeline Embler; two sisters, Theda Jones and husband Bill and Brenda Watkins and husband James; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters and brother, Ellen Burchell, Ruth Smith, Peggy Straughan, John Harden and June Bowman.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service.
