Betty Van Payne Thompson
Betty Van Payne Thompson, 94, of Burlington passed away at Coble Creek Healthcare Center at Twin Lakes Community on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 7:15 p.m.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Paul Graham Thompson and the daughter of Dewey Alson “Doc” Payne and Mary Eleanor Crawford Payne, both deceased. She retired from Western Electric/Lucent Techonologies. She was a member of Swepsonville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and a former choir member.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Kirk Thompson and wife Judy of Graham, Kent Alson Thompson and wife Arlene of Graham and Kyle Van Thompson (Amy Carl) of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Katherine Thompson Collins and husband Brandon of West Virginia and Paul Allen Thompson of Graham. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Polly Payne Hart and Lee Anna Payne and a brother, James Mack Payne.
The family will receive friends at Swepsonville United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Gordon Christen. The family urges everyone to practice social distancing and to please bring a lawn chair for your comfort at the graveside service. Other times the family will be at the residence of a son, Paul Kirk Thompson.
