Obituary

Betty Louise Myers Huffstetler better known to most as Nanny passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on September 20, 2021. She was born February 24, 1931 in Gastonia, N.C. into a family of 11 children.

She is preceded in death by her parents Otis Myers and Pearl Sahms Myers, her husband Thad Dean Huffstetler, Sr, son-in-law Ronald Gerzema, and 8 of her siblings.

She is survived by 4 children: Valerie Gerzema, Dean Huffstetler, Greg Huffstetler, and Kris Huffstetler. As well as 2 granddaughters Torie Crouse, her spouse Brian Crouse, Kelli Emery, her spouse Michael Emery. She also has 4 great grandchildren: Kyndall Emery, Amber Crouse, Benjamin Crouse, and Joshua Emery. She is also survived by 2 remaining sisters, Dorene Early of Manassas, Va and Jeanette Hudson of Gastonia, NC along with so many nieces and nephews that it is impossible to name them all.

The Atlanta Braves have lost their biggest fan! She rarely missed watching a game and went to Atlanta multiple times to see them play and cheer them on. Calling her during a Braves game was usually not a good idea. Her greatest passions in life were sewing, crocheting, quilting, and cooking. But her favorite thing in the world were her great-grandchildren. As soon as they would walk into the door she beamed with pride and love like nothing I’ve ever seen.

Our mother was a force to be reckoned with and the strongest person we knew. She was a breast cancer survivor and an amazing woman. Our world will never be the same without her. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to standuptocancer.org.
