Bessie Parrish Phillips

Bessie P. Phillips, 87, of Burlington, peacefully passed into God’s care on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.

A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Phillips was the wife of sixty-four years to the late Charles Eugene Phillips, Sr. and the daughter of the late Hamilton Holt Parrish and the late Blonzia Stewart Parrish. Mrs. Phillips retired after working 43 years as a legal secretary in the Burlington area. She most recently worked for many years with Holt, Spencer, Longest and Wall, Attorneys, until her retirement in 1995.

She faithfully attended Peoples Memorial Christian Church up until this year, and was a member of Longs Chapel Christian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Phillips Hyder and husband, Joel, of Mebane; two sons, Charles Eugene “Gene” Phillips, Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Snow Camp and David Allen Phillips and wife, Susan, of Mebane; three grandchildren, Brian Phillips and wife Laura, Lindsey Phillips, and Tyler Phillips and seven great-grandchildren, Chasen, Ella, Arianna, Kyleigh, Charleigh, Carter and Victoria and one niece, Rhonda Quakenbush Bowling. She is also survived by her beloved companion kitty, Allie Cat.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Eugene “Tripp” Phillips III and a sister, Bobbie Quakenbush.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 PM on Thursday, November 9 at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington, and at other times at the home of Judy Ann and Joel Hyder at 2516 South Jim Minor Road, Mebane. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Rich and Thompson Chapel with Pastor David Grinnell officiating. Burial will be in the Haw River Cemetery.
