Mrs. Berta Davis Cook, 88, of Graham passed away at her residence on Monday, October 30, 2017.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late James Dale Cook and the daughter of William Johnston Davis and Sarah Curl Davis, both deceased. Berta was retired from AT&T and was a member of Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church and Saints Alive. Prior to her declining health, she was very active in her community where she grew up and lived for 85 of her 88 years. She enjoyed traveling and playing UNO. Berta was very generous with her time and resources and enjoyed visits and phone calls with friends and family.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Cook is survived by two daughters, Sue Vestal and her husband, Lee of Graham and Wanda Simmons and her husband, John of Graham; four grandchildren, Christopher Vestal and his wife, Claudia of Winston-Salem, Janet V. Kelly and her husband, Ryan of Richmond, VA, Jeremy Vestal and his wife, Maria of Alamance and Molly Ellington and her husband, Keith of Graham; nine great grandchildren, David Vestal, Ana Vestal, Reagan Polarek, Ashton Kelly, Tobyn Kelly, Kelsey Ellington, Ava Ellington, Sawyer Ellington and Jackson Ellington; two sisters, Marie White of Graham and Alice Thompson and her husband, Rodger of Burlington; a brother, Wade Davis of Graham; three sisters-in-law, Maxine Cole, Alma Parrish and her husband, James, and Austine Jones; a brother-in-law, Ellard Cook; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Davis.
The funeral service will be conducted at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Mark Stephens. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
Mrs. Cook’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her friend and caregiver, Mildred Holmes.
